Guide Dog Adoption Centre

Thank you for you interest in adopting a withdrawn guide dog.

Opportunities to adopt a withdrawn guide dog are often intermittent, however, with the current growth in our guide dog program, the chances of a dog becoming available are increasing.

When a guide dog puppy is withdrawn from our Puppy Development Program, it is offered in the first instance to the volunteer puppy walking family as a pet.

If they are not in a position to keep the dog permanently, we then seek a suitable placement for the dog. Similarly, when a working guide dog is retired, most often the guide dog handler, or a family member or friend, will care for the dog in its retirement. Where this is not possible, again a suitable placement is sought for the dog.

Please note that a fee is required for each dog placed. A fee of approximately $1,100 (inc. GST) is anticipated for a healthy dog.

If you are interested in sourcing a retired guide dog, you will need to complete an adoption application form (PDF).
