In a world first for Tasmania, we have Labrador puppies!!!!
OK, so maybe it isn't quite a world first to have Labrador puppies, and we all know that Tasmania has lots of puppies really. But in a major first for Guide Dogs Tasmania, we do have some new puppies.
For many years we have purchased our puppies from interstate and overseas from established guide dog breeding colonies. This has been a great basis from which to build our guide dog program, but does expose us to some risk if there is a shortfall of puppies within the breeding colonies we purchase from.
So, in very recent times we have started to explore the potential of some locally bred Tasmania puppies.
We will be closely monitoring these puppies through their development and hopefuly onto their eventual success as guide dogs. The ability to supplement our puppy numbers from local breeders is a fantastic bonus for our program and will allow a diversity of pups coming through the program in order to meet the diverse needs of our clients. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming photos.
